MIRAMAR THEATER ORIGINAL PAINTING

In its heyday, the majestic Mira Mar Theater in historic downtown North Beach section of San Clemente, with it’s Spanish colonial architecture boasted air conditioning, 750 reclining velvet seats and luxurious crystal chandeliers. Opened in 1938, the theater was originally named the El Hildalgo, then the San Clemente theater, and finally the Mira Mar Theater. You could see “Gone With The Wind” there for 25 cents. In 1969 the theater underwent a restoration project that included new seats, carpeting, concession stand, decoration, marquee, and box office, among other changes. It reopened December 17, 1969 with the showing of the 1969 hit movie “The Battle of Britain”, starrin Michael Caine, Lawrence Olivier, Robert Shaw (Quint form JAWS) and Christopher Plummer. After attendance fell in the early 1970s, the theater showed surf movies before closing her doors in the is mid 1980′. Several groups are currently trying to refurbish this grand old theater.
