
The iconic TEXAS THEATER in Bronte, Texas is located at 200 West Main Street in Bronte, TX. Is was actually the second “Texas” theater opened in Bronte. It opened September 14, 1948 showing “Blondie’s Reward” with Penny Singleton. Also on the marquee war westerns starring John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. Other flicks icluded Kid Creole with Elvis Presley, Old Yeller and Godzilla. The theater stayed open until the mid 1970’s. Although the Texas Theater was small in stature, it had an Texas-sized influence in the promotion of culture in the Lone Star State. The Texas Theater was used as a logo by the Texas Film Commission and made the cover of Texas Monthly magazine in November, 1990.
