N.M.FREIGHT ORIGINAL

775 $

11″ X 14 N.M. FREIGHT oil on masonite board. Somewhere out there in the high desert of New Mexico, a lone freight train makes it’s way through the harsh but beautiful landscape that give’s New Mexico it’s well-deserved nickname: The Land of Enchantment. Past flat top buttes and mesas and cone-shaped hoodoos, you can almost hear the faint wail of the lead locomotive’s horn. You see, out here, among the sagebrush and the ocittillo and the cacti, the railroad never sleeps. It could be a freight heading to the Raton Pass on it’s way to the flatlands of eastern Colorado, or an Amtrak Southwest Cheif or Sunset Limited on it’s way to Chicago or the City of New Orleans. And if it gets too dark, mother nature helps the train find it’s way with a little moonlight and a blanket of stars in the night sky.

At the end of the day, towards dusk, you can hear a distant train horn calling out in the distance in the New Mexico desert. It could be a Santa Fe freight. Or it could be a Union Pacific freight. Or maybe an Amtrak full of drowsy passengers, wondering its way through the desert night in this pre-dusk dreamscape. Even mighty freight trains are dwarfed by the dramatic landscapes commonly found in New Mexico, The Land of Enchantment.
