This old time movie house is located in the town of Bronte, in Coke County. West Texas. “BANG!” salutes all the westerns that were probably shown all throughout these small West Texas towns. That is, when there wasn’t a football game to go to. Its no country for conventional art. Cormac McCarthy country. Should have had the premier of the Cohen brothers’ “No Country For Old Men” here. Llewellyn Moss and Anton Chigur would have to make nice for a spell. Another fitting movie premier to have at the Texas Theater in Bronte would have been Peter Bogdonavich’s “The Last Picture Show.” Actor Ben Johnson, who was a real life cowboy and rodeo world champion won an Academy Award for his role in that movie as Sam the Lion. Johnson’s monologue out at the water tank with Timothy Bottoms is one of the most memorable speeches in cinema history.
