The Land of Enchantment, New Mexico is also the Land of famous and iconic Mission chapels. The San Francisco di Asis is one of the most recognizeable Spanish mission churches in the American Southwest. The church was built in the center of a fortified plaza that defended against Commanche attacks. In 1967 the archdiocese replaced the roof and the ceiling beams. The church doors were replaced with replicas and the original sanctuary woodwork was left intact.
