Built by the Spaniards between 1772 andl 1815, the San Francisco Di Asis church was located in the center of a fortified plaza to defend against Commanche attacks. In 1967 the archdiocese replaced the roof and the ceiling beams. The church doors were replaced with replicas and the original sanctuary woodwork was left intact.
